Review
Selected Poems of William Gilmore Simms, edited by James E. Kibler, was first published in 1990, with a revised and expanded edition published in 2011. Largely due to the work of Kibler, Simms’s reputation as a poet has been steadily rising in recent years. The collection is a great work of scholarship because Simms’s poetry is mostly not in book form but is scattered through numerous journals of the time, and sometimes published anonymously or pseudonymously. As indicated by a second edition, new Simms poems are still being discovered. See also 20.00.05.
