Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings (1896—1953) was born in Washington D. C. and moved to a 72 acre Florida orange grove near the community of Cross Creek in 1928, which became her home. There she wrote, often about her experiences in Florida. She is best known for her immensely popular book The Yearling.
Abstract.
In Cross Creek she gives a vivid, somewhat autobiographical account of life in rural Florida. The film version is not very good.
