Madison Jones, (1925–2012) has been called “one of the major figures of contemporary southern literature.” Most of his novels are set in the 20th century, but in this work he creates a memorable portrait of Southern soldiers and civilians at the critical Battle of Nashville late in the War for Southern Independence.
