Madison Jones, (1925-2012) has been called “one of the major figures of contemporary southern literature.” Most of his novels are set in the 20th century, but in this work he creates a memorable portrait of Southern soldiers and civilians at the critical Battle of Nashville late in the War for Southern Independence.
