William Gilmore Simms’s, Stories and Tales, was first collected and published in book form in 1974. This work presents some of Simms best stories that were published in periodicals but not in books during his lifetime. These includewhat are generally considered two of Simms’s best, written in the vein of Southwestern tall tales: “Sharp Snaffles: How He Got His Capital and His Wife,” and “Bald-Head Bill Bauldy.” Like most of Simms’s work, the stories in this volume are now online.
