Our Review
This work is a dense multi-denominational description of the pervasiveness of Christianity as a cause and support of the American War of Independence. It by no means neglects the South, unlike many books on the same subject, and is a strong antidote to the contention that American independence was inspired by deistic and abstract political philosophy. The book is well described by a quotation from Patrick Henry: “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty.”
