Importance of this Work

British Captain Thomas Nairne in 1708 conducted a wilderness expedition from Charleston, South Carolina Colony, to the Mississippi River just above the Gulf of Mexico.  His mission was chiefly to assess the Native American nations from the British military point of view.  His record is an incomparable source for the powerful Southeastern Natives of the period.
