02.23.12 Kettell, Thomas Prentice, Southern Wealth and Northern Profits, published in 1860.

Our Review

Published on the eve of the war by a leading economists, this excellent work showed the mutual dependency of the economies of the North and the South, and argued that the Abolitionist agitation would prove to be destructive to both sections. The politics of agitation by the North are also addressed and denounced as a power grab to put the South into a Constitutional minority, rendering them as de facto colonies at the mercy of the North. An excellent work.
