Notes Concerning the Author

George Brown Tindall  (1921—2006) was a native of South Carolina, prolific and respected historian, and long-time professor at the University of North Carolina.

Our Review

The Emergence of the New South may be regarded as a continuation of C. Vann Woodward’s Origins of the New South (02.09.01) and of equal quality with that work.   It is a  useful  overview of its period of Southern history, generally even-handed, though written from a mildly liberal viewpoint.
