We have listed William Archibald Dunning’s book on Political Reconstruction primarily because he was so influential in guiding the method of historiography of important students. Standing alone, without recognition of his contribution as a leader in the teaching of historians, his Reconstruction: Political and Economic would be considered “a poor read and not a very useful book and not really Southern.”
