Our Review

Most of Norton’s work has been in 20^th century political thought,  but this highly original and insightful work,   examines how the North and the South developed into different  versions and understandings of what  it meant to be American.   Unlike many contemporary works, Norton does not treat the South as a problem but as a legitimate version of the American experience.
