Abstract

North of Slavery: The Negro in the Free States, 1760-1860 is a tabulation of events that define the history of Blacks north of Maryland, Kentucky and Missouri.  This is a good companion to the work also recommended, and similar in that it is a catalog of events, which was written by Peter M. Bergman, titled, The Chronological History of the Negro in America.  Together these two works should equip you will a good reference source on the subject.
