The Abbeville Institute website is an excellent source of thoughtful essays and commentaries by members concerning all aspects of Southern history and Southern culture. Much of these writings focus on history before 1940, but a significant number dwell on more recent Southern experience. This is a strong organization that holds conferences and schools, giving writers, lecturers and students opportunities to interact and learn from one another. The Abbeville Institute was founded by Dr. Donald Livingston and Dr. Clyde N. Wilson. Dr. Wilson is also a co-founder of the Society of Independent Southern Historians.
