22.04.05 : Goodbye, Me Lady, released in 1956.

A poor Mississippi farm boy finds a dog of a strange breed and trains it up to be a good hunter.  Then he has to do the painful right thing and give it back to the well-heeled owner from whom it has strayed.  The movie contains memorable lines by Walter Brennan as the crusty mentor of the boy: “Met a Yankee once.  Sanke bit him.  The snake died.”
