22.03.12 : The Andersonville Trial, released in 1971
The Andersonville Trial was released in 1971. It is a dramatization of the 1865 trial and condemnation of Captain Henry Wirz, commander of the Confederate prison at Andersonville, Georgia. Richard Basehart plays Wirz very effectively. The film is tinged with Northern righteousness but manages to convey the moral ambiguity, propaganda lies, and perjured testimony that characterized Wirz’s prosecution and execution.
