22.03.08 : The Outlaw Josey Wales, released in 1976

The Outlaw Josey Wales, was released in 1976.  Clint Eastwood is a Southern survivor of Northern ethnic cleansing in western Missouri.  Like many such, he heads to Texas to start a new life on the frontier.  Based on a book by Asa Earl Forrest Carter (1925—1979), a speechwriter for Governor George C. Wallace, who also wrote the Native American classic The Education of Little Tree.   The latter book is good, though the film version entirely lacks its Southern viewpoint.
