05.16.03 Tarbell, Ida M., The Life of Abraham Lincoln, 4 vols. Published in 1902.

Our Review

The author had a reputation as one of the early twentieth century “muck-rakers.” In these volumes, she quotes the editor of the Chicago Tribune’s account of his interview with Lincoln, as he and his committee from Chicago petitioned Lincoln to relieve the city from their draft quota. In his angry reply, Lincoln admits that Boston and Chicago were the cause of the war.
