McMath’s American Populism: A Social History, 1877-1898 is good on the Southern aspects of the late 19th, early 20th century Populist Movement, for the great farmer’s uprising for reform of the late 19th and early 20th centuries forms an important epoch of American history and particularly of Southern history. The work of McMath (1944- ), professor of history at the University of Arkansas, presents a knowledgeable overview of this period.
