Proud Rebel, was released in 1958. Nearly every major Hollywood star of the 1930s—1960s at some point played a sympathetic Confederate character. This is true of Alan Ladd, who is an ex-Confederate traveling to Illinois and Minnesota in search of help for his traumatized mute son. Northerners give him a hard time, but he triumphs in the end. A fine family film.
